Shoei X-Spirit 3 Aerodyne Helmet

The SHOEI X-Spirit 3 Aerodyne Helmet is a full face helmet designed for racing, developed through extensive experience in top-level road races such as MotoGP. Its shell, shield, interiors, and aero device have been completely redesigned with an emphasis on safety and utilizing the most advanced race-support knowledge. • Use of the Aero Form technology allows for increased aero dynamic performance at high speeds when adopting a racing position. The X-Spirit III helmet was specifically developed for use on circuits, with a focus on the rider's forward lean. Through an analysis of the air flow experienced by the rider while in motion, the helmet's shell was designed accordingly and equipped with a rear stabilizer, adjustable flaps, and a lower air spoiler to optimize aerodynamics. In comparison to its predecessor, the X-Spirit III has seen decreases of 3% in LIFT, 10% in DRAG, and 50% in YAWING, as measured by their in-house wind tunnel experiment. This significant improvement in aerodynamic performance can greatly reduce fatigue and enhance the overall riding experience.
• Marc Marquez participated in a wind tunnel experiment, reaching speeds over 200km/h, as part of the development process.
• The aerodynamic performance of the X-Spirit III helmet can be compared to the X-TWELVE, as measured by Shoei's in-house facility. In terms of LIFT, the upward force, there is a decrease of 3%, while in terms of DRAG, the backward force, there is a decrease of 10%. The force causing rolling and shaking of the helmet at high speeds, YAWING, is reduced by 50%. These values were determined through experiments in Shoei's in-house wind tunnel facility.
• The Rear Flap is a prominent addition to the rear stabilizer of the X-Spirit helmet. This innovative feature, found on both sides of the stabilizer, comes in two different types.
  
• Choose between the standardized wide rear flap for improved straight riding aerodynamics and the optional narrow flap for enhanced motion performance.
• The addition of a detachable Lower Air Spoiler improves aerodynamic performance, prevents wind roll-in, and reduces wind noise. This feature can be easily paired with a chin curtain for maximum effectiveness.
• Equipped with a newly developed flat shield, "CWR-F", the X-Spirit III features a carefully considered radius and thickness in each area to fully improve optical properties. Made of polycarbonate, the CWR-F shield offers advanced rigidity to eliminate deflection and kink during high speed riding, while the QR-E shield base allows for easy fixing and removal with high airtightness ensured in the variable axis double action mechanism.
• This helmet features a double lock mechanism for the shield. In addition to clasping the hook, the mechanism uses a sliding lever to securely lock the shield from the outside. This ensures tight and reliable shield locking.
• The Ratchet-type tear-off button is designed to conveniently equip optional tear-off films. It features a built-in eccentric adjuster that can easily be adjusted.
  
• The helmet features a PINLOCK® pin on the inner side of the tear-off button and a new PINLOCK® EVO lens, enhancing visibility with a wide field of vision.
• Introducing the innovative QR-E system, the Shoei X-Spirit 3 Aerodyne TC-2 Helmet offers effortless and secure installation and removal of the shield, as well as superior airtightness with its variable axis double action mechanism. Utilizing a vortex generator on each side, this helmet ensures optimal aerodynamic performance and minimal wind noise for a smooth riding experience.
• The PINLOCK® EVO lens, which is crucial for maintaining a comfortable ride by preventing fogging of the shield in low temperatures or rainy weather.
• PINLOCK® EVO lens is a standard feature in the X-Spirit III. This innovative lens provides nearly complete visibility and effectively prevents fogging, ensuring a comfortable view in any weather conditions.
• The X-Spirit III helmet allows for a customized fit with its adjustable interiors. Depending on the riding position, the center and cheek pads can be adjusted in two steps, rotating the rider's head forward by up to 4 degrees. This creates better vision in a forward leaning position, providing an advantage for riders who lean heavily while riding.
• A personalized fit for riders is achieved through the introduction of the new interior system for X-Spirit III. The system consists of 6 center pads, each of which can be individually exchanged for optional pads of varying thickness to accommodate the rider's head shape. The interior is made of highly absorbent and quick-drying material with a comfortable fiber texture. The helmet also features E.Q.R.S. cheek pads for easy removal in case of an emergency.
• The helmet features a snug fit on the sides and a looser fit in the front and back areas. To customize the fit, switch out the standard pads for thinner 5mm pads on the sides and thicker 13mm pads in the front and back.
• The ear pads can be easily removed and adjusted to fit the rider's performance, providing optimal comfort and performance.
  
• The helmet's ventilation system is designed to effectively redirect riding wind and exhaust hot air and moisture. Air intakes are strategically placed in the front and upper areas of the helmet, allowing for a constant flow of air even while riding in a forward-leaning position.
• Utilizing negative pressure, the air outlet holes at the top and inside of the rear stabilizer effectively exhaust hot air.
  
• Additionally, the helmet features a newly added air route in the lower portion and divides the incoming air into two paths. The upper part guides air into the shield to serve as a defroster, while the lower portion directs air to the cheek area, eliminating hot air and moisture buildup.
• Utilizing a state-of-the-art Cheek Vent System, this helmet directs airflow from the lower air intake, through a designated air route inside the chin bar, and directly behind the urethane foam of the cheek pad. This innovative design effectively expels hot air, ensuring maximum comfort for the rider.
• The X-Spirit 3 Aerodyne TC-2 Helmet has been compared to the X-TWELVE for its ventilation effect, measured through wind tunnel experiments. The helmet's temperature change after being exposed to wind equivalent to 100km/h for 30 seconds was lower. All measurements were taken in-house at Shoei's wind tunnel experiment facility.
• The helmet's sizing system is based on a combination of 4 differently sized shells and 5 impact-absorbing liners, resulting in a total of 6 sizes available (ranging from XS to XXL). 
  
• The advanced AIM+ shell structure, comprised of multiple layers of robust glass fiber and high-performance organic fiber, provides superior elasticity and effortlessly meets all safety standards. In addition to being JIS certified, the X-Spirit III also holds SNELL 2015 certification.
• The E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick Release System) Easy Helmet Removal System is a crucial feature for a helmet in case of an accident. It allows for easy removal of the helmet by a third party, reducing the burden on the rider's neck which may have been injured. While a helmet's impact-absorbing performance and comfort are important, the ability for a third party to assist a rider is also essential. Developed by SHOEI, the E.Q.R.S. system makes removing the helmet quick and easy, without causing further harm to the rider.
